Scuba BCD
When people become interested in scuba diving, they probably don't consider it a complex sport, but there aspects of scuba diving that are very technical. Buying equipment that relieves you from having to deal with these technical issues is an option. The deeper dives you make, the more you will need to control how the water propels you. To make calculating the amount of pressure you need to counter this force of water you should wear a scuba buoyancy control device (BCD). A scuba BCD is basically a vest or backpack with an air bladder that holds low-pressure air. Selecting a scuba BCD is a matter of considering the type of dives you will perform. The more technical or deep your dive, the more advance features you need. If your diving is completely recreational you probably don't need to worry about additional features such as weight integrators, oxygen bottles, or a collection bag. Most important, you should make sure the scuba BCD fits snug.
For the scuba diver planning to make technical dives, the XS Scuba Advantage BCD with its abundance of advanced features is more suitable. The XS is weight integrated, but contains pockets so that you can distribute the weight according to your specific needs. When you are in the water you will be able to judge the amount of weight you need better. The XS includes an attachment in the front of the dual backpack that allows you to release weight easier. With the average weight that deep-sea divers have to carry being around 60 pounds, the eight pounds of the XS are a definite plus.
If you prefer a more natural-fitting BCD, you might want to consider the Genesis Cayman BCD. This BCD fits like a jacket and is made of soft nylon urethane. It is also padded for extra comfort. The Genesis Cayman includes only two pockets for collection, but they expand in case you need extra room. This BCD is even lighter than the XS. The Genesis Cayman is only 5.6 pounds.
